While Pattaya is close to Bangkok, flying between the two cities is an option for travelers seeking a quicker journey or a luxurious experience.
Traditional vs. Trendy Flights
There are no direct flights from Bangkok’s major airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), to Pattaya. However, several airlines offer connecting flights through U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport (UTP) using smaller propeller planes.
For a more upscale experience, Bangkok Airways offers scheduled flights from Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) to U-Tapao.
Considering the Costs
Flights can range from around $183 USD (6,350 THB) to more depending on the airline, booking time, and if it’s a direct or connecting flight. This is compared to buses which can be as cheap as $4 USD (145 THB) but take significantly longer.
Time in the Air
The actual flight time is brief, clocking in at around 3 hours and 25 minutes. However, factor in travel to and from the airports, security checks, and baggage claim for a total travel time that might be closer to 4-5 hours.
Is a Flight Right for You?
While a scenic and fast option, flying isn’t necessarily the most budget-friendly way to get from Bangkok to Pattaya. If time is of the essence or you crave a unique experience, then a flight might be perfect. However, for the cost-conscious traveler, a bus or van might be a better option.
