Bangkok Visa on Arrival for Indian Passport Holders, Your Travel Essential

Narupon Hinshiranan

Traveling to Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand, is an exciting adventure for many Indians. But before you get swept away by the delicious street food and stunning temples, there’s the essential question of visas. Luckily, for Indian passport holders, obtaining a Visa on Arrival (VOA) in Bangkok is a straightforward process.

Here’s what you need to know about securing a Bangkok Visa on Arrival as an Indian citizen:

Good News!

As of recently, there’s been a positive change for Indian tourists. From November 2023 to May 2024, Indian passport holders can enjoy a visa exemption for stays up to 30 days in Thailand. This means you may not need a VOA at all, depending on your travel dates.

Double-check the Dates:

However, if your visit falls outside this window (after May 10th, 2024), or you plan to stay longer, a VOA remains an option.

Requirements for a VOA:

  • Valid Passport: Your passport must have a validity of at least 30 days beyond your arrival date in Thailand and have an empty page for the visa stamp.
  • Completed Form: You’ll need to fill out a Visa on Arrival application form, which is usually available upon arrival at the immigration checkpoint.
  • Passport Photo: Keep a recent passport-sized photo (4×6 cm) handy.
  • Onward Ticket: Proof of a confirmed return or onward flight departing Thailand within 15 days (for VOA) or 30 days (for visa exemption) is necessary.
  • Accommodation Proof: Show documentation confirming your stay in Thailand, such as a hotel booking or Airbnb reservation.
  • Finances: Be prepared to show evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. The minimum requirement is 10,000 THB (Thai Baht) per person or 20,000 THB per family. Cash is preferred for this.
  • Visa Fee: There’s a non-refundable visa fee of 2,000 THB to be paid in cash at the checkpoint.

Tips for a Smooth Arrival:

  • Gather all your documents beforehand to avoid delays at immigration.
  • Convert some currency to Thai Baht before your trip to cover the visa fee and initial expenses.
  • Check the latest visa information on the official Thai Embassy website or consulate closest to you for any updates.

Visa Exemption vs. Visa on Arrival:

The key difference between the visa exemption and VOA is the duration of your stay. If your trip is under 30 days and falls within the designated dates (currently until May 10th, 2024), the visa exemption allows a hassle-free entry. For longer stays or visits outside this period, a VOA is the way to go.

With a little preparation, obtaining a Visa on Arrival in Bangkok should be a smooth process. Now, get ready to explore the City of Angels and create unforgettable memories!
