What Happened to Stickman Bangkok?

Yamile Kabande

For nearly two decades, Stickman Bangkok was a fixture for expats and tourists in the know. Founded by a blogger named "Stick," the website offered a cheeky, insider’s guide to Bangkok’s infamous nightlife scene.

Stickman Bangkok wasn’t shy. It featured reviews of go-go bars, gossip about the industry, and photos that leaned heavily on the "glamour" side. But after a long run, Stickman Bangkok shut down. So, what happened?

The End of an Era: Closing Time for Stickman Bangkok

The closure came in two parts. In 2016, the original Stickman, who also worked as an English teacher, faced online harassment and personal attacks. This, combined with pressure from his employer, led him to step away from the blog.

The website continued under a new pseudonym, "Stickboy," but it wasn’t the same. By 2018, Bangkok’s nightlife scene had changed. A crackdown on bars and a shift in tourism meant the go-go scene wasn’t the draw it once was. With his content drying up and the financial well running low, Stickboy finally called it quits.

A Legacy of Nightlife in Bangkok

Despite its controversial content, Stickman Bangkok served a niche. It offered a glimpse into a hidden world for curious visitors and a forum for expats to share their experiences. The blog’s closure marked the end of an era for Bangkok nightlife and a bygone style of expat blogging.
